DESCRIPTION: Up to 11mm. These common weevils can be found throughout the year and are quite distinctive with their stout bodies that are black with creamy-rust patches, and their swollen femurs on all legs. The elytra is slightly grooved and pimpled. The snout is short and the antennae are elbowed at approximately halfway. BEHAVIOUR: The flightless adults are all female, reproducing by parthogenesis. They feed at night. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread throughout and somewhat of a pest to gardeners. HABITAT: Anywhere where there are plants to be taken especially gardens and parks. During winter months can be found indoors. PERIOD: All year round. |
